 About the Role:
 
Aquila is seeking a Data Scientist to join our team in supporting one of the country’s premier defense research organizations.The Data Scientist provides web application and collaboration solutions in support of the Organization's technical mission and its day-to-day operations.
 
There are a few requirements for the position: 

• Must be a U.S Citizen (Green Cards / Visas do not qualify)
• Willingness to undergo a comprehensive background investigation and maintain a personal security clearance. (Aquila would sponsor you for the security clearance.)
• Must be 100 miles from Lexington, Massachusetts.

What You'll Do:

Designs, develops, and implements methods, processes, and systems to consolidate and analyze diverse data sets including structured and unstructured. Develops software programs, algorithms, dashboards, information tools, and queries to clean, model, integrate and evaluate datasets. Keeps abreast of new analytic methodologies and technologies. Collaborates with functional business units to drive business solutions and direction.

Responsibilities:

• Design, develop, and deploy AI models using machine learning frameworks like TensorFlow and PyTorch
• Fine-tune and train AI models using large datasets and cloud-based infrastructure
• Create data pipelines for transforming and ingesting data from various sources, including databases, APIs, and file systems
• Develop and maintain data visualizations and metrics to monitor AI system performance and usage
• Collaborate with cross-functional teams to design and develop AI systems
• Troubleshoot and debug AI systems using testing frameworks and debugging tools
• Participate in code reviews and ensure adherence to coding standards and best practices
• Experience with Generative AI and inference
• Proficiency in Python (3.x) and experience with machine learning frameworks like TensorFlow and PyTorch
• Experience with SQL databases and data warehousing
• Experience with cloud platforms like AWS and Microsoft Azure
• Familiarity with containerization using Podman (or Docker)
• Knowledge of testing frameworks and familiarity with debugging tools
• Experience working within an Agile development framework
• Minimum Bachelor’s degree in computer science or related field with at least 5+ years of experience

Working Knowledge of the Following:

• Familiarity with Apache Solr and creating data pipelines for search products
• Experience working within the Scrum framework
• Experience with data visualization tools like Power BI
• Knowledge of data governance and data quality best practices
• Experience with data engineering tools like Apache Beam, Apache Spark, or AWS Glue

Must Have:

• 5 years Data Warehousing
• 5 years SQL databases
• Bachelor's Degree
• 5 years Agile Methodologies
• 1 years Generative AI and inference
• 5 years Python (3.x)
• 5 years Containerization (Docker, podman, etc.)
• 1 years Machine learning tools (PyTorch, Tensorflow, etc.)
• 5 years Cloud Environment (AWS & Azure)
• 5 years Framework Testing

Nice to Have: 

• Apply data quality and data governance best practices
• Scrum Methodologies
• Apache Solr and creating data pipelines for search products
• Data engineering tools (Apache Beam, Apache Spark, or AWS Glue)
• Data visualization tools (Power BI)

• Buy Your Own Device (BYOD) Allowance Reimbursed up to $1500 for the purchase of a qualified technology device. Eligible after 90 days of employment, and benefit renews every three years.

Location: Lexington, MA
 
 Work Schedule:
This position is VIRTUAL. The candidate can work remotely but they MUST live within 100 miles of Lexington so that they can come into the organization if necessary for the needs of the program. The onsite work will NOT be regular.

Clearance: An interim clearance is sufficient for the start of this position.
