Description

The Information Technology and Records Management area within Human Services and Public Health (HSPH) department is seeking a Senior Information Technology (IT) Engineer to assist with building structures and systems to ensure technical capacity for service delivery to business partners, focusing on the business intelligence and data warehouse disciplines. This position will create a roadmap for moving on premise data and applications to the cloud. They will also be expected to mentor other IT staff on successful cloud migration, infrastructure delivery and modern data architecture.

Location and hours:
This position is remote. Remote workers may be required to come on-site to a Hennepin County facility in downtown Minneapolis, MN an average of 0 to 12 days a year for work meetings, trainings, or for any other reasons their supervisor may deem necessary (may include additional days for onboarding and new employee training). Supervisors will provide as much advance notice as practicable. Work hours are Monday through Friday 8 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. with flexibility. While these positions are designated as remote, based on the business needs for this position, individuals must reside in or be willing to relocate to Minnesota

This is a full-time benefit earning position. You must be a of Hennepin County's Human Services and Public Health department to apply for this position. Limited duration employees are not eligible.

In this position, you will:

  • Interpret business needs to implement new solutions based on Hennepin County standards and industry best practices.
  • Research and prepare technology recommendations to be presented, both verbally and in writing, to business stakeholders.
  • Collaborate effectively with developers, managers, and customers.
  • Perform database and administration tasks for both on prem and cloud environments.
  • Identify opportunities to optimize our environment ensuring efficiency and adherence to industry best practices related to security and infrastructure.
  • Design and build sustainable and scalable state of the art solutions.
  • Analyze manual processes, identify process bottlenecks, and effectively resolve them.
  • Build repeatable automated and sustainable data migration (ETL) and reporting routines and processes for both on prem and cloud.
  • Provide guidance in modernizing legacy, maintenance, and automation processes.

Need to have:

  • One of the following:
  • Seven years or more of information technology experience.
  • Associate/vocation/technical degree in Computer Science/Engineering or a related Information Technology field and five years of information technology experience.
  • Bachelor's degree in computer science, Management Information Systems, Data Engineering, Business Intelligence, Data Analytics or a related information technology field and three years of information technology experience.
  • Certification in a leading professional level certification area (ex: MCSA, MCSE, IBM, CDMP, etc.).

Nice to have:

  • Experience:
  • In data architecture, data modeling, database administration, and security.
  • Leading technical solution design in an environment that includes on prem and cloud infrastructure.
  • Deploying applications in the cloud for internal and external users.
  • Designing and building out cloud components.
  • Applying and auditing SQL and Windows security.
  • Working with automating processes, such as pipelines, flows, and power automate.
  • Ability to:
  • Present and communicate reports on key performance indicators (KPIs) for service operations.
  • Work with Enterprise Architecture to balance cost and efficiency related to software and infrastructure.
  • Work with and support SQL database administration and IIS.
  • Knowledge of:
  • Server/windows administration including migrating servers, databases, PowerShell, SQL scripting and automation (IAAS).
